One Step Closer To War With Iran

Posted by nytexan on August 15, 2007

It appears that we are moving one step closer to a war with Iran. While Karzai and Maliki are trying to set up relations with their neighbor Iran, Bush is adding fuel to the war fire. This will be the first time this type of action will be taken against a foreign government entity.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The U.S. government is involved in intense discussions over naming all or part of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist group in a move that would effectively declare “open season” on the organization, a senior official told CNN.

If made, the designation would come in the form of an executive order from President George W. Bush, the State Department official said.

Such a move would allow the Treasury Department to go after the finances of the group and those who do business with it.

“It would basically declare open season on these guys,” the official said, adding that the move is being taken because of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps‘ (IRGC) support for “all the bad actors” — insurgents in Iraq, the Taliban in Afghanistan and other terrorist groups in the Middle East like Hezbollah and Hamas.

The move is “three-fourths done but the devil is in the details,” the official said. An internal decision has been made to take some action, but there is still debate on whether to designate the entire IRGC or just the elite Quds Force.

“We need to decide whether to go for the sledgehammer approach of the larger group or the laser method of just going after the Quds Force,” the official said.

Asked to comment on the reports that the Guard Corps may be named a terrorist group, National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe would only say:

“It’s not appropriate for us to discuss potential future actions. We continue to urge Iran to play a constructive role in the region, and to stop providing support to terrorist organizations.”

Although most in the administration wants to go for the whole group, some want to tone it down a bit to soften the anticipated criticism from European allies, the official said.

For months, U.S. officials have contended that Iranian agents, from the Quds Force, are helping train and equip militants in Iraq and have been supplying armor-piercing explosively formed penetrators to insurgents that have been used against U.S. forces. Iran has denied these assertions.

The discussions come amid increased pressure by Congress to take tougher measures against Iran, including a possible divestment campaign. According to the official, the move by the administration could blunt any action in Congress which might tie the administration’s hands.

They should make it easy and announce that anyone with more then one brain cell is a terrorist. That would make the members of the bush crime family not terrorists!

This ranting and raving about Iran is just their sales job on going to war with Iran. That bunch in labushanostra just has to screw things up even more!

The scientifically impossible I do right away
The spiritually miraculous takes a bit longer

Bush is looking to start a full scale global war. I know this is a joke but when Congress gets back they need to do something to put the brakes on.

By Bush claiming them as a terroist group, he and Cheney don’t need Congress to go to war since the 108th Congress authorized this shit of global terror and gave president nut job full authority.

If we’re lucky we’ll all be here in 18 months to see his sorry ass hit the dusty trail.

Congress is a willing partner with the Bush regime.

We are creating global disaster and there isn’t a goddamn thing we citizens can do to stop it.

Israel is being pretty damn quiet about all this crap.

  5. Hmm where Does Mrs Clinton stand on all of this…gee i wonder. Where is our entire congress on this ..gee i wonder…who benefits …gee i wonder. Will 10 million in the streets stop this madness…gee i wonder. People we need to think seriously about ways to protect ourselves, not against foreign agents who would harm us , but against the ememies of the people within the corriders of the Congress and the Oval Office. Tyranny is here. Its is in the form of the Patriot Act, It is in the over reach of the Unitary Excutive who is batshit crazy with Greed of delusions of OIL and grandiosity, and it will likely take a draft to plunge us into another decade of turmoil in order for the public to wake up and smell the fascism right here.

In the meantime – organize face to face locally as much as you possibly can. Reduce your debt. And try and keep the happy thought. NY Texan Isreal is our proxy and vice versa, thats pretty hard to ignore. And lets not forget our sordid history with Iran in the installation of that murderous shah. Perhaps Peace on Earth is an impossible dream. Peace in our homes, may be more attainable. Just wars are an oxymoron of the past. Our moral standing is a rotting corpse, for reasons and legislation we are all well aware of..

What is it going to take to end this Tryanny ? My best guess right now is an astoroid of large proportion. Sorry to be so glom, but today i am living in reality vs. hope.

Clinton is a hawk just like Bush. Congress is asleep at the wheel with Pelosi at the helm. I’m sure they all have stock options in the war profiteers.

We must take to the street and be seen. Call, letter and blogging is not getting it completely done.

Indeed, where is our Congress? The Democrats, especially, seem to have their hands full with a weird form of foos ball – working hard to keep impeachment off the table.

Yep, there’s money to be made for sure, but even beyond that, I truly believe they need a different fix. Playing at conventional war has lost its thrill. Nuclear promises a better high.

Nuclear promises destruction for all if not from the blast then from the fall out. I think I’ll pass on that high.
