Sneaky US Senate: Wants To Hire Criminals & Addicts To Defend Us

Posted by bosskitty on July 10, 2007

Ex- convicts and addicts may get DoD clearance

At the Pentagon’s request, Senate defense authorizers tucked deep within a defense bill a repeal of the department’s restriction on granting security clearances to ex-convicts, drug addicts and the mentally incompetent.

The repeal provision now is creating discord between the Senate Armed Services and the Intelligence committees. In its markup of the 2008 defense authorization bill, the Intelligence panel voted to delete the Armed Services provision.

The law negatively affects individuals who have committed a qualifying crime but have determined trustworthy by “national adjudicative standards,” according a Pentagon spokesman. Because the statute only applies to the Pentagon, it hinders clearance reciprocity with other federal agencies, he added.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, however, warned of the dangers of a blanket repeal of the law, which could lead to unintended compromises or mishandling of classified information.

S. 1547: National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008

Sec. 1064. Repeal of standards for disqualification from issuance of security clearances by the Department of Defense.

Boy, the Senate is trying to slip another one past us! What we need are more convicts, drug addicts, and mentally unstable DOD employees. Maybe we’ve elected so many criminals already, that they feel the whole country needs to be protected BY criminals instead of FROM criminals!

Hey! Homeland Security is looking for a ‘few good employees’, why not staff them with criminals, too? Why not screw up our defense system worse than it already is? Where is Main Scream Media on this detail?

Sorry, this is the first I’ve heard about it. Hard to make sense of it.

Makes perfect sense to me. They want to load up the DoD with their kinsmen.

  3. I saw where ex-cons and addicts are now acceptable fodder for the military too.

But gay and lesbian Americans aren’t. Curious?

I find it irritating that sections of a bill can be slipped in after a vote is taken. I think whether it’s a House member or Senator they should have charges or sanction taken against them and that section of the bill removed.

This whole freakin administration is hard to make sense of.

Maybe the gay and lesbian community has it all wrong. First you need to announce that one is a criminal and and addict to be accepted, then announce that their gay or lesbian.
