Taking Texas And The Nation Back

Glenn Beck Al Gore And The Holocaust

Posted by nytexan on May 3, 2007

Occasionally, I read or hear remarks from Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly, and I wonder which one smokes more crack? I think Beck won this one hands down. In another one of Beck’s uneducated and insulting statements, he has compared Al Gore and global warming to Hitler and the Holocaust.

In an ADL press release:

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today denounced remarks by radio personality Glenn Beck where he compared efforts to raise awareness about global warming to Hitler’s plans to exterminate Jews during the Holocaust, saying his remarks are part of “a troubling epidemic on the airwaves, where comparisons to Hitler and the Holocaust are becoming all-too facile.”

On the April 30 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Beck said: “Al Gore’s not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization. The goal is global carbon tax. The goal is the United Nations running the world.”

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and a Holocaust survivor, issued the following statement:

Glenn Beck’s linkage of Hitler’s plan to round up and exterminate Jews with Al Gore’s efforts to raise awareness of global warming is outrageous, insensitive and deeply offensive.  Unfortunately, his remarks are just the latest example of a troubling epidemic on the airwaves, where comparisons to Hitler and the Holocaust are becoming all-too facile”.

I can’t even get my brain to bend that far to make a connection between the two.

Last night Beck hosted a CNN report “Exposed: A Climate of Fear”. During this special report, Glenn Beck questions the accuracy of Al Gore’s claims in the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth of 20-foot sea level rises and the disastrous effects of increased carbon dioxide levels.

Fortunately I missed it. How does Beck still have a show? While writing this I became curios (not very) about who is Beck, so I googled him. I came across this site NNDB who has a short bio on him. Very short; his accomplishments are…. well let’s just say there are none.

From NNDB: “Beck suffers from Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), so his radio show is always fast-paced. Fans describe him as quick-witted, well-informed, an independent thinker, and a good Christian. His mantra, he says, is to begin and end each day on his knees, praying for the troops and the president. A Mormon with self-described libertarian leanings, Beck is big on conservative politics and traditional family values”.

University: Yale University (dropped out); Risk Factors: Alcoholism, Marijuana, Cocaine (sounds like shades of Limbaugh) .

I’m baffled by this “Fans describe him as quick-witted, well-informed“. Are you kidding me!! You have to wonder how a guy like this has a radio show and a CNN show where he can espouse very ignorant view.  I guess since his audience is right wing the truth and reality don’t matter, just that someone meets their criteria: Christian; has good family values; and prays for the troop and Bush everyday.

I find it funny how you can judge Glenn Beck so harshley when you have never tuned in to listen.
Sounds to me like you are just spreading hate. The partial quote you have is taken out of context and misleading. Tune in and listen, you might just learn something new.

The ADL quote that was used was also checked by Media Matters for accuracy and fairness. I have listen to Beck in the past, which is why I felt comfortable doing the post. You will fiind that everything on this blog is check by more than one source before it is posted.

Beck does not get good marks from any reputable media critic out there. With that said thanks for your comments.
