Taking Texas And The Nation Back

Expanding FISA

Posted by nytexan on April 11, 2007

The Bush administration seems to have found the right man to continue their illegal stripping of our rights. National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell has drafted a bill to expand the government’s powers under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

Mr. McConnell would like to expand warrants used to investigate suspected spies, terrorists and other national security threats. The court-approved surveillance could include planting listening devices and hidden cameras, searching luggage and breaking into homes to make copies of computer hard drives.

That sounds pretty ambiguous to me. Who will define what or who a suspected spy is? Under this administration all of us are a security threat. If it was completely up to Bush we would have brown shirts and jack boots on every corner.

Do you really think the Gonzales Justice Department and the FBI will show any accountability if FISA is expanded. I doubt it; their past performance has been less than honest. Oh I’m sorry “honest” a concept lost on this administration. I truly hope Congress doesn’t even entertain the possibility of expanding FISA.
