Nations Must Spread Fear To Justify Human Rights Abuses

Posted by bosskitty on May 24, 2007

Thank you for this informative article By Nora Boustany,   Washington Post Foreign Service Thursday, May 24, 2007

Powerful governments and armed groups are spreading fear to divert attention from human rights abuses, exacerbating polarization in an increasingly dangerous world, Amnesty International said yesterday in its annual assessment of rights worldwide.

That is a common sleight of hand magic trick and we fall for it every time.

The United States is “the leading country using fear to justify the unjustifiable,” said Larry Cox, executive director of Amnesty International USA. “The U.S. used to be in a position to speak out effectively against torture and military tribunals. We can’t do that now because we are carrying out some of the same practices,” he said.

This is the same successful ‘magic trick’ that has been a GOP favorite for the last 7+ years.  The GOP has brought this country down to the same level as the worst Human Rights offenders and uses the same mantra every time!  Remember 9/11!  Remember Al Qaeda!  and as for immigration … Remember the Alamo!

Democrats are given an opportunity to turn this around – change troop strategy – make mental health repair a requirement before releasing damaged soldiers back into society.  We want to hear a statement in the right direction!  Still waiting!

Point Of Reason

Posted by nytexan on May 24, 2007

I’ve been thinking what possible reason could the Democrats have to cave into Bush? After reading some of the comments in previous posts, a light went off.

A few weeks ago, several Republicans said that if things in Iraq have not turned around by September they will no longer support Bush. So maybe, just maybe the Democrats strategy is give Bush what he wants now because they will have the Republicans on their side in September to stop the war and override Bush in the next veto.

I’m not making excuses, I’m just thinking out loud.

Antiwar Groups Press Democrats to Vote Against Iraq Bill

Posted by bosskitty on May 24, 2007

Thank you for the article:  By Shailagh Murray , Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, May 24, 2007; Page A06

AntiWar … groups flooded congressional offices with phone calls and e-mails and threatened long-term political reprisals if Democrats decide to support the legislation when it comes before the House and the Senate, where voting is expected to start tonight, possibly extending through Friday morning.

Did the Democrats think there would be no repercussions?  A lot of angry people are saying a lot of angry things.

Democrat Inaction Hurts!

Posted by bosskitty on May 24, 2007

I am angry that Democrats did not at least offer the alternative of ‘re-directing’ our human resources to Afghanistan out of Iraq in a phased shift. Afghanistan, the orphan war, could use the support that, the chosen child, Iraq got. Afghanistan at least was a justified response to a real injury. We allowed ourselves to fall for a ‘con’ job and got taken. Bin Laden is still free to be the ‘poster boy’ for Bush who is no longer interested in pursuing him. Oh yeah, he has these secret guys always getting closer and will catch or kill Osama some day . . . my dog chases his tail like that, too

Too late for recriminations, we should formulate a solution with minimum casualties on both sides. Real or imagined, the threat is now worse and we are compounding it by feeding Bush everything he wants. Americans did not put Democrats in charge for things to stay the same! Don’t bother justifying your actions/votes – just fix it!
So disappointed, I could spit!

Pelosi And Reid Have Failed America

Posted by nytexan on May 24, 2007

As Bush stand in the Rose Garden this morning giving his same old tired speech about the young Iraq Government and the his new strategy, I wonder how many new strategies are we going to have for this failed war. I’m sure September will bring another new strategy.

I am deeply disgusted with Congress for allowing Bush to again get his way in his continual lies of the Iraq war. The Democrats in Congress should be very ashamed of the selves. They won both houses of Congress to get us out of Iraq, and yet they side with Bush.

Their statement that this bill is the beginning of the end for Bush and his war is crap. I believe that for the Democrats approving this bill is the beginning of the end for the Democrats. Shames on you Speaker Peolsi, shame on you Harry Reid, both of you have failed the American public. Voters in November propelled both of you to power to stop the maniac that we call our President and you have failed.

There are a few in the House that are standing firm and will vote against the current bill and I applaud them. My own Representative Lloyd Doggett, will be voting against his colleges in the House. Mr. Doggett realizes the need for the troops to come home and he hears the voices of his constituents. I give Mr. Doggett a standing ovation.

My disappointment and disgust with the 110th Congress, has made me decide that I will not support, nor vote for any democratic running for President who votes for the current bill. This bill is a sham and yet, they call it ending the Iraqi war. My focus has now turned to supporting Mr. Dodd and Mr. Edwards for they are the voices standing firm on what the American public wants. They apparently don’t have a hearing problem.

Religion: The Original WMD

Posted by bosskitty on May 24, 2007

Bicker, spit, spat, holler, hit, club, shoot, bomb, destroy!  Your religion, my religion, their religion, so what?  What I believe makes me happy and I hope yours makes you happy.  But, not a single second of my thoughts is devoted to belittling or contradicting what you believe.  I don’t care what you believe unless you try to push me over and crush me with what you believe or badger me into accepting what you believe.  Do not threaten me!  How are people supposed to respond when they are threatened because of what they believe.

No single religion is innocent of misuse.  Today, the three major religions are misbehaving badly.  Today, Christians, Muslims and Jews feel threatened by each other.  Each has blood on their hands.  Each religion has evolved into monsters intent on destruction in the name of ‘self preservation’.

Religion is no longer a personal believe system!  Religion has become a Weapon of Mass Destruction!   Religion has become an tool for political and corporate motives.  Therefore, religion has been re-defined away from it’s original intent.  Theocracies are Weapons of Mass Destruction who have corrupted religion to their political advantage!

Do I see God’s tears?
