House Defies Bush

Posted by nytexan on May 10, 2007

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a $96 billion war spending measure, despite a veto threat from President Bush. The bill, passed 221-205, would send the Pentagon about $40 billion up front to fund U.S. combat operations into July.

Additional funding would be dependent upon progress in the four-year-old war, based on a review of how well the Iraqi government was meeting a series of benchmarks.

It’s doubtful the Senate will pass their version of the bill. You can take this to the bank, if the Senate passes their version and it makes it to Bush’s deck, President Incompetent will veto. Did you expect anything else?

White House Withheld E-Mails

Posted by nytexan on May 10, 2007

National JournalThe Bush administration has withheld a series of e-mails from Congress showing that senior White House and Justice Department officials worked together to conceal the role of Karl Rove in installing Timothy Griffin, a protégé of Rove’s, as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

The withheld records show that D. Kyle Sampson, who was then-chief of staff to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, consulted with White House officials in drafting two letters to Congress that appear to have misrepresented the circumstances of Griffin’s appointment as U.S. attorney and of Rove’s role in supporting Griffin.

How can Gonzales continually say, even in today’s hearing, that he didn’t believe the White House or staff was involved? If this is true than Gonzales should resign for not knowing what in the hell is going on in his own department.

Several of the e-mails that the Bush administration is withholding from Congress, as well as papers from the White House counsel’s office describing other withheld documents, were made available to National Journal by a senior executive branch official, who said that the administration has inappropriately kept many of them from Congress.

The senior official said that Gonzales, in preparing for testimony before Congress, has personally reviewed the withheld records and has a responsibility to make public any information he has about efforts by his former chief of staff, other department aides, and White House officials to conceal Rove’s role.

It appears that Gonzales has once again misled Congress to protect the White House instead of upholding the oath he took.

Powell’s Chief of Staff Proposes Impeachment

Posted by nytexan on May 10, 2007

On Thursday, May 10, 2007, Lawrence Wilkerson, speaking on National Public Radio, proposed impeaching President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

“The language in that article, the language in those two or three lines about impeachment is nice and precise – it’s high crimes and misdemeanors. You compare Bill Clinton’s peccadilloes for which he was impeached to George Bush’s high crimes and misdemeanors or Dick Cheney’s high crimes and misdemeanors, and I think they pale in significance.”

I just wish impeachment would stop falling on deaf ears. Its time to change the direction of this country.
