The Saga Of Alberto Gonzales

Posted by nytexan on April 18, 2007

Tomorrow is the continuing saga of Gonzogate.  Alberto Gonzales will testify on all he pretends not to have known about the U.S. attorney firings.  It’s been said in many articles that Mr. Gonzales has been preparing for tomorrows testimony.  Now correct me if I’m wrong, but if you tell the truth, what is there to prepare for?  Are there going to be trick questions that he needed to study for?  Please it’s called how to cover your ass and get away with the lie. I believe that class is called Bush 101.

Even if the firings were not politically motivated, the way Gonzales and the administration have gone about, their behavior alone provokes suspicion. Why would Kyle Sampson resign and testify without a problem.  Did Sampson see the handwriting on the wall faster than Scooter Libby?  Monica Goodling invoked the Fifth Amendment, and then she decides to resign; now she has offered to testify if she gets immunity.  Does that sound like an innocent event that was handled poorly? I don’t think so.

This administration is so secretive and feels they are above the law. They fully deserve what ever treatment and hard questions Congress puts forth.

Guns On The Campaign Trail

Posted by nytexan on April 18, 2007

It’s sad to me that we are only 72 hours past the shootings at Virginia Tech and we have now put gun control on the 2008 campaign trail. We are truly capitalist. We capitalize personally and politically on someone’s loss and suffering. The student, faculty and their families are in the zone of grieving and pundits are in the zone of political capital.  For two nights now after work, I have listen and watched experts in all field opine on gun control as they weave the carnage in Virginia into the campaign trail.

I live in a state where probable 90% of the homes have a gun, mine does. And yet I am all for melting every gun.  I don’t understand why we feel the need to own guns. But that’s not the discussion I wish to get into today.

Democrats for and against gun control won’t touch the subject for fear they will loose the states they gained on 2006.  On the other hand, I think the some Republicans will use gun control to gain what they lost in 2006.  They will use the Virginia Tech murders to bolster their position with the the 2nd Amendment crowd.  To me that’s sad.

I feel that the tragedy and trauma of many Americans will become political hay for some in their quest for the White House.  I hope I’m wrong.

Blackberry And Homeland Security

Posted by nytexan on April 18, 2007

This morning I received a message in my in box that there was a Blackberry failure.  As I continued to read the notice I was shocked to see that the failure also affected Homeland Security who depends on the Blackberry network. This really seemed to bother me.  Not that I believe that Homeland Security and FEMA can do anything to protect or save me. It was just the idea that this is their notification system.

I’m glad Homeland Security has gone modern. However, you don’t need to be an Einstein to figure out that if Homeland Security is so crippled by the Blackberry network, how will they tell us the sky is falling?

Bush is so worried that the terrorist will follow us home, when in reality our own failure will cripple us.  I really hope they have a back up plan.

Bomb Blast In Baghdad

Posted by nytexan on April 18, 2007

Today there were 4 bomb blasts in Baghdad killing 160 people and over 100 wounded. The bombs were in the Sadriyah market, around the green zone. Where as you remember McCain (Bush’s mini me), was so comfortable in telling us “it was very safe”.

Bush is so worried about his legacy, and McCain wants to be President, that they really seem blinded by their personal gain. It appears that neither can clearly see what the Iraqi people and the American troops have to suffer through everyday.  Oh they both say they support the troops and that they are caring men, but at whose expense? Bush’s “surge” has done nothing to quell the violence.  McCain’s constant support of Bush and the war is making him more irrelevant everyday.

Bush plans to veto Congresses bill on Iraq. That’s progress. Bush is so wiling to say that Congress is sending the wrong message. Congress is not supporting the troops. Congress will have the terrorist follow us home if there are timelines for withdrawal. Everything that is wrong with this war is everyone’s fault but Bush.

Both men are so focused on winning at all cost. However, we lost this war in the very beginning. We put ourselves in the middle of a culture we know nothing about.  And now we haven’t a clue how to close Pandora’s Box. Bravo Bush and McCain.
